Joint Advisory Council for Jones/Onslow

An historic event occured, on November 18th, 2004, in Jones County when the joint Jones/Onslow Big Brothers Big Sisters Advisory Council had it's initial meeting. A first for Jones, Onslow and Big Brothers Big Sisters, the council members brought with them a wide range of expertise and experience from many fields.

Big Brothers Big Sisters has won a $530,000 grant from the Department of Education for a three year period. This has made it possible for the agency to move forward with full time personnel in Jones and Onslow. I will soon be posting information about the History of BBBS of Southeastern N.C. for the full explanation of this grant and what it means for us.

The following is a listing of those in attendance. There are several others who have agreed to serve but were unable to attend the initial meeting. All of these people are committed to Jones and Onslow Counties and to helping our children. Without their committment, this effort would not be realized so saying a simple "thank you" seems inadequate. I think the real reward will come when there is a difference made in young lives through mentoring. Well done!

Jesse Eubanks - Jones County Commissioner
Carol Mattocks - Child Advocate/Guardian Ad Litum Program
