Transformers–The Movie
This afternoon I met Josh, Karen and his friends Ben and Randi to see the new release of Transformers. To say that it was awesome is an understatement. The special effects are more than incredible with cars and trucks (Autobots) transforming themselves into huge robot like creatures from Cybertron. Of course there are the bad transformers as well that are out to conquer and destroy Earth as we know it. The movie was non stop action and the plot was great though I do wish it had slowed down the action in some parts and been a bit more on the human side. Ok, so I wanted more lovey dovey and bonding between the robots and humans. Well, I guess there is that between the main character and his car butttttttt……I believe this is going to be the blockbuster of the summer so go see it.
Transformers made their debut in the late 1980’s and as was typical, my sons had to have all of them. There was Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots that stood about 18 inches tall once it was transformed into a robot. Their collection grew and then we had to have the Decepticons (bad guys) as well so they could stage wars between the two sides. Well you get the idea.
We had all of them. All of the original Star Wars characters, all the Ninja Turtles, and Bryce had every piece and costume of the Power Rangers. Just like their mom who had all of the original Barbie dolls and accessories. Notice the operative word here??? HAD!!! Housecleaning tasks and cleaning out the attic prompted the throwing out of all that “junk”.
I was talking to Josh’s friend today who has the entire collection as well. He told me he just sold one of his Transformers for $750 on eBay!!!! I almost swallowed my gum but wasn’t all that surprised. Once again, hindsight was 20/20 and the words just rolled out of my mouth,” You have GOT TO BE KIDDING???”. He wasn’t, and that remorseful feeling of wanting to kick myself in the butt almost made me want to leave before the movie began but of course I stayed.
Who knew?? Who would have dreamed all those “toys” would one day be collector’s items??? I remember thinking that very thing though as they tumbled into the dumpster. Oh well, what to do?? Hmmmm..do you think I should hang on to my collection of Beanie Babies??
